More established specialised math centers follow a very rigid progression process in the student's study. The student will need to complete all worksheet in a particular level before moving to the next level.
Lets see this effect on a particular student. Say that the student is in form three. During the enrollment assessment, say that this student is seen lacking in skills at the basic addition level. This student will need to go thru from basic addition, working in all worksheets from basic addition with no flexibility to work on other areas at all. He/She will not be allowed to work on other worksheets, say multiplication, so long as he/she has not completed all worksheets leading to multiplication.
In Just-Math, some form of flexibility is given based on assessment of the student incorporating factors like
1) age of student
2) acceptable skills to work on other areas
3) learning attitude of the students
A student may also be allowed to work on multiple areas simultaneously. e.g. working on basic horizontal addition, horizontal subtraction as well as in areas of vertical addition and subtraction if possible. We may also incorporate some areas of multiplication and division simultaneously in this particular case.
Here we fully harness on the power of individualised learning.
